Buyouts
Buyouts are intended as a means of permanent reduction of hazard risk. Once a buyout has been concluded the land must return to green space in perpetuity with restrictions on the use of the land.
There are multiple programs that fund buyouts as a mitigation effort, however, individual programs each have their own set of guidelines and eligibility criteria that must be met for the property to be eligible for that particular program. Not all properties will be eligible for every available program, therefore it creates a giant puzzle for the county to figure out what properties will fit best into which program based on the criteria set forth.
