Additional Resources

 Not every disaster is the same when it comes to available resources for individuals, below are some general resource options to help aid in the recovery process. Individuals may need to research if these entities are providing relief for the specific disaster and any eligibility requirements. 


TAXES
Texas Comptroller
Taxpayers in a declared disaster county may be eligible for certain tax exemptions and filing extensions for their taxes.

IRS
IRS may offer tax relief in disaster situations.

Montgomery County Appraisal District
The Texas Property Tax Code allows local governmental entities to authorize Appraisal Districts to reappraise property inside a declared disaster area.


 MORTGAGE ASSISTANCE
Homeowners can contact their mortgage company and see if there are any disaster relief options available. Some homes that are in Major Disaster Areas are eligible for:
          * Suspended mortgage payments for up to 12 months
          * Waive assessments of penalties or late fees
          * Suspend reporting mortgage loan delinquencies to the nation's credit bureaus
          * Mortgage modification


 LONE STAR LEGAL AID

Fourth largest service provider of free legal aid in the United States. LSLA serves 72 counties in Texas including an office located in Conroe. LSLA provides assistance in a multitude of areas including disaster relief and focuses on assisting those who are low-income.
