The Montgomery County Law Library makes available legal print and online resources to local judges, litigants, and attorneys. The Law Library is open to the general public. Members of the general public are welcome to come in to do their own research. There is no fee to use the legal resources on premises.

The Law Library staff members are unable to give legal advice, legal opinions, or any interpretation of the law. Staff may assist visitors in using available materials. The Law Library staff includes a Reference Attorney who may be able to assist with the filing of court documents in Montgomery County in simple family law cases, if the parties are in agreement on all issues, and if none of the parties is represented by an attorney.

The Law Library is a research library. The Law Library collection is focused on the area of Texas law and documents. The Law Library also has United States statutes and cases. The law of other states can be accessed through WestlawNext Patron Access. Computers are available to conduct research using various online legal databases; and to access the internet to search other legal sites. Wireless access is available.

There are books and online resources in the Law Library collection that provide guidelines for making legal forms. Books and materials may not be taken out of the Law Library. A multi-function printer is available to photocopy, scan, fax, and print from computers, according to a schedule of fees, and in accordance with copyright law.

The Law Library is funded by a filing fee on civil cases filed in the County Clerk and District Clerk's offices. The fee is used to make available legal materials to local judges, litigants, and lawyers; and to staff the Law Library. The County provides the space and maintains the Law Library. The Montgomery County Law Library was renovated in 2011. The renovation was funded by the special filing fee.
